root//reach

One of my favorite yoga instructors always emphasizes the importance of focusing on rooting, while keeping in mind to reach at the same time, in each posture. I've been thinking about that process in a more literal sense for awhile, and trying to identify where I'm rooting and where I'm reaching in life. Basically, I feel pretty rooted, but I don't think that I'm reaching far enough.. or maybe just not in the right direction.

For me, reaching means actively listening to the universe, (if this sounds wacky to you replace 'the universe' with whatever higher power you believe in) and being open to what it's trying to tell me. Lately I've been failing at setting aside time to be alone with my thoughts, and that's something I'm going to try to work on this week.

This evening I was so, so tired from staying up until 2am working on Emma's birthday cake, and then waking up before 8am and spending 3 more hours in the kitchen getting things ready before our family came over, but I forced myself out for a hike and some quiet time.

We went to our favorite hiking spot, and walked through the forest, as the last bit of today's sunlight trickled through branches, and the breeze sent leaves floating from the treetops to the ground. We even saw a family of deer feeding on cactus. It was quiet, and the perfect way to end a busy weekend.

I can honestly say that I'm looking forward to this week, and what it holds, which is a pretty bold statement for a Sunday nite, when I'm usually clinging on to every last minute of the weekend.

Wishing you all a wonderful week. Happy *almost* Monday :]
